Seven members of the Superiorland Library Cooperative will receive a $10,000 gift from the Carnegie Corporation of New York. This initiative marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by celebrating Carnegie Libraries in operation across the nation.
Scottish immigrant Andrew Carnegie funded the construction of 1,681 free public libraries nationwide between 1886 and 1917. Approximately 750 of them continue to use their original buildings, while others have moved to new locations.
Congratulations to Bayliss Public Library, Dickinson County Library, Escanaba Public Library, Ironwood Carnegie Library, Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library, Portage Lake District Library, and West Iron District Library on their forthcoming $10,000 gift from Carnegie Corporation of New York.
These libraries continually empower, educate, and inspire their communities. Their commitment to providing equitable access to information, fostering lifelong learning, and supporting personal and professional growth remains at the heart of everything they do. This gift will help ensure the libraries remain cornerstones of knowledge, connection, and opportunity for all.
